- Congress eyes Forex Reserves
It has happened faster than we thought. After the rise and rise of forex reserves, it is time to loot it once again. We quote from the report: Chidambaram has often said every country should have a safe and comfortable limit for holding forex reserves to meet the balance of payment requirements, and beyond which the reserves should be utilised for investments in needy sectors of the country particularly in infrastructure. Read that as utilised for investments where cronies benefit. We'll keep you updated on how fast the reserves dwindle. Watch this space.
- Crony capitalism in action
Speaking of crony capitalism, this is what Times of India has to report:
A leading Canadian oil executive has advertised the 'contacts' of his company with finance minister Palaniappan Chidambaram, hinting it could probably help the company's business deals in India. Could it? Edward Sampson, chairman of Calgary-based Niko Resources Ltd, was quoted by Reuters telling reporters that Chidambaram had been the company's corporate counsel for a long time.
We learn that Niko has already submitted a plan to profit by tapping India's oil wealth.
- If they don't have food, let them eat snakes
Tribal Development Minister Sambhu Mandi revealed the pro-people policy of his Government when he stated that Adivasis should live on snakes, rats and toads if they didn't want to starve. But for the pseudo-secular media, those who question this attitude are at fault. Upset that BJP questioned such an attitude, Economic Times published a report headlined BJP, Mamata feast on starvation
- Communists shoot themselves in the foot
This time the Communists have condemned their own decisions in public! Close on the heels of the Communist-Congress alliance hiking the price of petrol, the Communists called the decison anti-people.
- Religion of Love meets Religion of Peace
Love and Peace coming together seems to be an explosive mix! Conveniently for leaders of both camps, this simple, primordial conflict around land was stoked by fiercer passions: Tribe and creed, resentment against outsiders, competition for political power, an overabundance of guns and frustrated young men to put them to use.
That combustible mix fueled a recent orgy of violence across this fertile central Nigerian state. Churches and mosques were razed. Neighbor turned against neighbor. Reprisal attacks spread until finally, in mid-May, the government imposed emergency rule. The article states that Allah was on the side of Muslims. With Allah on their side, retaliation followed retaliation. In February, Christians were burned to death inside a church in Yelwa. That would make you think that Religion of Peace won over Religion of Love. But wait! In early May, a Christian militia slaughtered Muslims So that is a draw!
