- Congress Government to take over yet another Hindu shrine
Mid Day reports that the Maharashtra Government will take over the famous Sai Baba shrine at Shirdi.
The state government has been trying to get the
cash-rich shrine (its annual income last year was
around Rs 60 crore and its accumulated corpus
is Rs 200 crore) under its control.
Last year, a similar attempt to take control of
the shrine failed after the assembly did not pass
the proposal.
The shrine in Ahmednagar district is currently
an autonomous public trust controlled by the
charity commissioner. They say that the act, if it
comes into force, will rob the shrine's
management of its independence and give
ministers access to the shrine's enormous
corpus.
Meanwhile, Haj trips continue to get money from the Government.

Manmohan Singh dashed the hopes of free-market economists who were looking forward to the dismantling of the Planning Commission which is one of the last major Stalinist Institutions in today's world.
Manmohan Singh appointed Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission indicating that Congress will pursue the path of the "planned economy." Ahluwalia's appointment is expected to strengthen the role of the Stalinist Institution.
Under the Congress-Communist regime, the rupee, the stock market and foreign exchange reserves have all plunged. After the rupee plunged to a 11-month low the state controlled Reserve Bank of India provided an artificial prop to the rupee.

Sheikh Fawzy Fadel Al-Zafzaf, president of the
Permanent Committee of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif for
Dialogue with Monotheistic Religions, made that
contention at a conference under way in this
Persian Gulf state.
Al-Zafzaf explained to the audience at the
Conference on Dialogue between Christians and
Muslims that the Koran prohibits believers of
Islam from putting an end to innocent lives.
Al-Zafzaf did not elaborate on how Islam defines innocent.
