Your regular dose of pseudosecularism

  1. Indian government defends Jizya

The UPA government pointed out that the Shariat courts were legitimate entities, and also defended the Jizya tax imposed by Aurangzeb.
In an affidavit filed in the court, the Centre even defended the "jaziya tax" imposed by Aurangazeb as a mere "special tax" which non-Muslims had to pay for failing to render military service.
This defence of Aurangzeb by the government comes close on the heels of members of the Congress Party defending Tipu Sultan's treatment of kafirs.

  2. Islam is Religion of Peace, say Pakistan and Azerbaijan

Pakistan and Azerbaijan rejected the linking of terrorism with Islam and explained that Islam was a religion of peace and tolerance.

We verified this claim and found that Islamic countries believe in human rights. According to the 'Declaration of Human Rights' adopted by the Organization of Islamic Conference, murder is prohibited except for a Shari'ah prescribed reason.

    ARTICLE 2:

    (a) Life is a God-given gift and the right to life is guaranteed to every human being. It is the duty of individuals, societies and states to protect this right from any violation, and it is prohibited to take away life except for a Shari'ah prescribed reason.

The leader from Azerbaijan gave an update about the democratic setup in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The Azeri leader said that democratic set up was running very well in Pakistan and President Musharraf has taken many steps for promotion of real democracy in the country.

  3. Losing candidate urges opponent to convert

Rae Hart Anderson, who lost the race for Minnesota's Senatorial seat to Satveer Chaudhary, urged her opponent to convert to Christianity. In an email, she said:
The race of your life is more important than this one--and it is my sincere wish that you'll get to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He died for the sins of the world, yours and mine--and especially for those who accept His forgiveness. His kingdom will come and His will be done--on earth as it is in heaven. There's more....I love belonging to the family of God. Jesus is the way, the truth and offers His life to you and each human being. Pay attention...this is very important, Satveer. Have you noticed Jesus for yourself...at some moment in time, yet??? God commends His love to us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

  4. NGOs to ask for ban on TV serial that hurts church attendance

NGOs in Mizoram have decided to ask cable operators to stop screening a TV serial that has people hooked to it. Apparently, Church attendance has declined as people prefer the television serial to Sunday Mass.
Reports from Champhai district on Tuesday said, in a recent meeting of NGOs, it was decided to request the cable TV operators to stop screening the serial as it was allegedly creating "problems in church attendance and condolence gatherings".

The NGOs were also of the opinion that the Hindi serials propagate Hinduism and frequent viewing of them by children could lead them "astray from the Christianity".

  5. Reuters explains how mosques are built

Krishnan S has sent in a news item pointing out how various places of worship are converted into mosques. We'll let the quote from Reuters speak for itself.
Protesters waved banners displaying "Pope get out of Turkey" and chanted "Aya Sofya is Turkish and will remain Turkish".

Police have sealed off Aya Sofya and the famous Blue Mosque, which the Pope will also visit, with security barricades.

On conquering the city in 1453, Sultan Mehmet went to the church and prayed, turning it into a mosque.

  6. Rockefeller Center plants Pagan Tree

A 9-ton tree was put up for the holiday season at New York City's Rockefeller Center. Although called a "Christmas Tree," the Bible clearly bans the use of such trees.
    Jeremiah

10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
